Notes on battery disposal

The wheels we supply may be fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The TPMS sensors contain a permanently installed lithium battery. The following legal notes and return options apply to it.

Your obligation to return

In connection with the supply of devices that contain batteries - in our case these are the TPMS sensors fitted in the wheels -, we are obliged to point out the following to you: As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries. Disposal via household waste is not permitted.

How to return old sensors

The lithium battery of a TPMS sensor is permanently installed and sealed - it cannot be removed. Please therefore always return the complete sensor and do not attempt to open it. You can return old sensors that we have supplied free of charge to our dispatch warehouse:

Original Räder 24 GmbH Albert-Schweitzer-Str. 18
18442 Wendorf
Germany
Please send old sensors with sufficient postage; a personal handover by arrangement is also possible.

In practice, a TPMS sensor is usually replaced at the garage during a tyre or wheel change. There, the old sensor can normally be disposed of properly straight away.

Further return options

Alternatively, you can hand in old sensors at the recycling centres and collection points of your town or municipality. As this is an electronic component with a permanently installed battery, the sensor does not belong in household waste or in the standard battery collection boxes in shops.

What do the symbols mean?

The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol means that the battery must not be put into household waste. Additional chemical symbols beneath the symbol indicate the pollutants contained:

  • PbBattery contains more than 0.004 per cent lead by mass
  • CdBattery contains more than 0.002 per cent cadmium by mass
  • HgBattery contains more than 0.0005 per cent mercury by mass

Safety note on the lithium battery

The lithium battery fitted in the sensor can catch fire if damaged or short-circuited. Please therefore note:

  • Do not open, pierce, crush or heat the sensor.
  • Do not send visibly damaged sensors - take these to a collection point and point out the damage there.

Please observe the above notes. In doing so, you help to recover valuable raw materials and protect the environment.

As at: 16 June 2026. These notes are for your information and do not replace legal advice.
