VW Tiguan: An SUV that rolls up the field from behind

It started late but then it got off to the right start. The VW Tiguan is a classic example of a late starter. For a long time, the Volkswagen Group watched as its competitors developed SUVs in the compact segment and eventually sold them successfully. But VW wouldn't be VW if they just watched - rather, they learned from the others to do even better. In 2007 the time had come - VW brought out the Tiguan 1 (5N). In terms of design, the first draft was a mixture of Golf and Touareg. The 4 Motion all-wheel drive was not obligatory. The smaller engines were also often only ordered with front-wheel drive.

Overall, the Tiguan is considered to be well customisable. These diverse configuration options were well received by the customer, so that the first Tiguan sold just under 58,000 units. The successor (Tiguan 5NA) followed the same strategy, but its design was more distinctive and independent. VW also developed the technology of the Tiguan in the right places and, from the second generation onwards, placed it on the modern MQB platform. This also meant that modern assistance and infotainment systems found their way into the second VW Tiguan.

I don't think we're going too far out on a limb when we say that the Tiguan 2 will once again be a real success from Volkswagen.
